Band Director’s Corner

December 15, 2014

I have had the opportunity to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with two different bands, and this year’s trip was the best. If you are taking a performing group to New York City, I would recommend Students on Broadway. Since they live and work in the city, they know New York. Every detail will be anticipated and taken care of. The tour guides are knowledgeable and personable. This means that you and your students can concentrate on performing and having fun.

Two years ago, our band was selected to participate in the 88th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.  Since then, it has been a whirlwind of events to prepare for this Once-In-A-Lifetime experience with our program.

From the time we arrived in NYC, we were greeted with smiles and helpful assistance from the Students on Broadway crew.  Their tour guides provided us with a unique knowledge of the city, and their time management and flexibility with our students was wonderful.  Transitions between events ran smoothly, and communication between the Students on Broadway correspondents and directors was immaculate.  At no point was I worried about anything logistical regarding the students.

The Students on Broadway NYC branch provided us with a jam-packed itinerary that included many firsts for the program, and for New York as well.  The students were the first Macy’s band to hold a live concert at the band shell in Central Park; we were able to practice our parade performance at an incredible indoor football facility in Connecticut; see some of New York’s featured attractions – Top of the Rock, the 9/11 Memorial, and the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular stage performance at Radio City Music Hall.  Let’s not forget the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall, an experience that our students will remember forever!

After all the hustle and bustle, Students on Broadway arranged for an elegant dinner cruise with all 553 students, chaperones, and family that attended.  This was an excellent end to a very memorable trip that our students will never forget, and that we will always remember as going off without a hitch!

I would highly recommend Students On Broadway NYC to any Band Marching in the Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

We were selected to March in the 88th Annual Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade and NYC based Students On Broadway managed our NYC ground operations. Their attention to detail and the care and attention their team paid to our students, staff and parents was apparent from the moment we arrived in NYC on 9 different flights at New York’s 3 different Airports.

Whether it was the amazing indoor football field size rehearsal space or being the first Macy*s Band to ever perform in Central Park the Students On Broadway Team made us all feel very special at every turn.

To cap off our NYC Whirlwind experiences of performing in Central Park, on the Stage at Carnegie Hall and in the Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade was our Thanksgiving Dinner Dance Cruise where 553 Band Members, Chaperones, Staff and Families had an unforgettable and memorable evening of giving thanks.

It is without hesitation that I would recommend the Students On Broadway NYC team to any Band selected to March in the Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade as their NYC ground operator.
